I recently appeared on a financial & business podcast to talk about the financial markets and my weekly substack newsletter. I’ve been on a podcast before to talk about women in banking and career progression but never as an “expert” to talk about the markets.

It was without a doubt an exciting experience. But, that’s not why I’m writing this post.

This post is to tell you about what I learned through the process and how the host is doing a fantastic job of promoting people.

The truth is most of us are hesitant to promote ourselves, particularly if we’re a bit older and we’re new to the online world. Now, I’m not really new to social media but, I don’t think I’ve really learned how to effectively use it to market myself.

I’ve always felt shy, for lack of a better word. And in real life, I’m not even close to being shy.

Yet, when it comes to the online world, I’m just really wary about what I should or should not be writing. I know I overthink it, or at least I used to.

Here’s what I realized: when it comes to social media the old PR adage applies…

Any publicity is good publicity.
