Too Much Content can Kill Your Creativity

Over the last few weeks I’ve been watching a lot of videos and reading a lot of articles to scan for ideas for my weekly newsletter. It’s important to keep up with what’s going on in the markets and people can provide valuable insights.

What I’ve come to realize is that while I have learned a great deal over the past couple of weeks, I’m tired. I’m mentally exhausted to the point where I’ve lost all my creativity. So what was actually supposed to help me create and spark ideas, has been counterproductive.

This is the thing with content. It’s fine to consume, and interact. But, only to a certain extent.

If you’re active on Twitter, you’ll notice that the most popular people have hundreds of thousands of followers but, they don’t follow as many people back. They usually have less than a thousand followers and even then these people say that they get burned out, every now and then.

I can completely relate to how taking in too much content can not only be exhausting but, it can also skew your perspective.

Whatever you have to say, should come from you. Yet if you’re constantly reading too many people’s work, you tend to get all muddled. Somewhere along the way you’ll not only lose your voice, but also the…
