I can’t remember the last time I looked at my stats
One of the reasons I stopped writing on Medium was that it was driving me crazy. Honestly, I’d post an article and look at my stats at least five times a day.
I couldn’t help myself and I realize that it burned me out trying to think about stuff to write about. I’d get super disappointed if my article was rejected by a publication. Maybe I was in a bad place back then, I don’t know. But that’s what happened.
Looking at how much my article was earning or rather not earning, was so unhealthy. It demoralized me and I just didn’t want to write anymore.
Fortunately, the writing bug never goes away for someone who really likes it. I took a break and then I thought I really wanted to write. Or get back in the game, in some form at least.
So I started small with Twitter. Easier to navigate, easier to post and a whole lot more interesting. But this time, I promised myself that I wouldn’t count beans.
The good thing about Twitter is that you can’t see your follower count unless you go to your profile. That’s a blessing because you hardly ever go to your profile. And just like that, soon more and more followers poured in. And with that so did my newsletter, so did my LinkedIn…
