Self-promotion is not about losing your humility

Just some personal thoughts

A few days ago, I saw a post on LinkedIn that said, if you’re going to do charity work… leave your camera behind. Honestly, it filled my heart with joy that she was bold enough to say it. Hats off to the lady.

Most days we’re so wrapped up in self-promotion, we forget that not everything is a photo op. I appreciate that we’re all just trying to survive and trying to get ahead in life. But, putting up pictures of how you helped someone to come out looking like a hero is not what it’s all about. Let your work speak for you.

You don’t always have to be the loudest voice in the room to be heard. Sometimes, just sometimes, if you do enough good and are consistent, people will speak up for you. Yes, you need to show case your talents but, boasting about what award you got or how much you helped a man on the street is not marketing.

These days as I post on Twitter and LinkedIn, I try to make it educational, focusing on content. If I am boasting it’s about someone else. Praising someone else’s work not to show off mine.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with show casing your work but, it doesn’t mean you lose your humility in the process.
